The Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper is a V10-powered sports car made by the Dodge division of Chrysler. The two seat sports car began production at New Mack Assembly in 1991 and moved to its current home at Conner Avenue Assembly in October 1995. The Viper, and numerous variations, has made many appearances in TV shows, video games, movies, and music videos. The replacement for the fourth generation Dodge Viper formed the basis for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Although Chrysler considered ending production because of financial problems, CEO Sergio Marchionne announced and showed on September 14, 2010 a redesign of the Viper for 2012.

Early Vipers featured a V-8 engine. But by 1990, when it was approved for production by Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca, it sported a hefty V-10. The Viper debuted in November 1991 for the 1992 model year.

Specifications:
Vipers through 1995 were equipped with a 400-horsepower, 8-liter V-10 that generated 465 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual transmission. The car was built on a 96-inch wheelbase and was 175 inches long. Its curb weight was 3,284 lbs. The V-10's displacement was later boosted to 8.4 liters to generate 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The retooled Vipers are heavier at 3,460 lbs.
The early Viper could go from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds at 112 mph.
